Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1989, Marino Funahashi was raised by her father, a painter, which sparked her early interest in art. She earned a master’s degree in Spatial Design from Musashino Art University, where she created three-dimensional works, including stage designs. During her graduate studies, she focused on blending washi (Japanese paper) with dried flowers.
In her 20s, she initially worked as a model before making the transition to becoming an artist. In 2022, she began to exhibit her work, participating in both solo and group exhibitions, while also completing numerous commissioned works for model rooms, hotels, and offices. Her artistic concept, “Depicting Time Through Nature,” is inspired by her family’s tradition in landscaping. She expresses this concept through semi-three-dimensional paintings, using natural elements as her muse.
In an era where objects can be vividly preserved, she aims to reflect the impression of an ambiguous, immaterial existence and evoke a deep resonance in the viewer’s subconscious. Additionally, she explores concepts of time as derived from the world of landscaping in her artwork.
