For Wu Guanzhen, creations is a reflection of his homeland. Born in the mountains of northern Fujian, his quest is the overlapping of the past and present.
From his childhood recollections of the mountains that cradled and shaped his young days to his frequent returns for inspiration, the memories of the landscapes has intertwined with the realities of change. Experience and recollection coexist along a layered timeline. The undulating peaks, interwoven shadows, the cacophony of insects, the rippling waters—all these layers of memory converge to form the trajectory of the artist's life, rewritten anew through the shifts of time and space.
In this overlapping perception, Wu discovers a state suspended between both realms, translating and expressing new insights upon the canvas.
Light penetrates the ramie, shadows fill the lacquered hues, blurring the edges of the picture, while viewers, amidst the flowing light and shadow, sense the interplay of the transient and the eternal.
