Yoan Capote: Mixed Feelings sees the Cuban artist’s extension of his exploration of the seascape as a site of migration, political upheaval, and contested identity. Featuring new works from his celebrated Isla, Purificación, Requiem, Palangre, Aguas Territoriales, and Sentimientos Encontrados series, the exhibition intertwines visions of Cuba’s sublime landscapes with reflections on its turbulent realities. Capote’s use of unconventional materials—fishhooks, saw blades, and salvaged metal—transforms them into poetic yet visceral compositions, evoking exile, autonomy, and resilience. In dialogue with Hong Kong’s shifting political landscape, Mixed Feelings exposes the paradoxes of belonging and displacement, compelling viewers to navigate the tensions between beauty and brutality, hope and despair.
